SMEs who do not regularly prospect are operating under the assumptions that current business with existing customers will be sufficient to generate the desired level of future revenue! This is a shaky assumption in good times, but it is especially questionable in the tough economic environment of recent years.<br>

At this event we can begin to explore the importance and challenges of prospecting, the strategic prospecting process, some prospecting methods and the developing of a Strategic Prospecting Plan.<br>

<description><![CDATA[<p>In December 2010 we ran a very successful meeting which investigated opportunities for businesses, in rural Dumfries &amp; Galloway, to diversify into new products or processes.<br>

There was considerable interest in the renewable energy sector, particularly small scale hydro electric schemes.<br>
&nbsp;<br>
We are blessed with a terrain, coastline and climate which present opportunities to capitalise on this sector.<br>
&nbsp;<br>
As a result we have planned a further meeting to investigate, in more detail, specific opportunities in this area. We will be joined by business owners with experience of this market.&nbsp;</p>]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[<p style="text-align: justify;">Following up on the successful Winning Through Innovation - Growing Through Technology event&nbsp; held on 14 September, Scottish Enterprise is now offering a free workshop on &quot;Technology Inspired Collaborative R&amp;D&quot;. The event will take place on</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>Thursday, 14 October, 9.30 - 15.00,<br>
at Apex House, 99 Haymarket Terrace, Edinburgh, EH12 5HD</strong>.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">It is open to all Scottish companies with an interest in collaborative R&amp;D in a technology context. The morning session will address questions such as</p>

    <li style="text-align: justify;">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; what are the potential benefits of collaborative R&amp;D?</li>

<p>The objective of this event is to bring together businesses from across the south of Scotland enabling them to interact with each other whilst drawing on the experience and wisdom of some of Scotland's leading business figures.</p>
<p>This event will be very much about giving encouragement and support to ambitious business owners across the south of Scotland to take their businesses forward and enable them to come away with invaluable information and ideas. <br>

<p>You are invited to a meeting at Heriot-Watt University&rsquo;s School of Textiles and Design to discuss opportunities for the Textiles sector. This is a chance for textiles designers, sales and marketing and production managers to meet staff from the School and from the Council&rsquo;s Economic Development Department. Agenda: &bull; An introduction from Richard Sweetnam, Economic Development Manager, Scottish Borders Council. &bull; A briefing by Professor Alison Harley, Head of School, on the research, testing and product development work that the School is doing for businesses. &bull; An open discussion about how we can maximise opportunities for the benefit of the textiles industry and the School. &bull; An opportunity for businesses to see the School, and to ask questions. Designers and others will be able to see for themselves the facilities available to businesses for product development and testing. Hugh Williams will be available to outline the business support opportunities available through the Business Gateway including the Scottish Borders Business Fund and the South of Scotland Creative Clusters Project grant fund.             Winning Scotland's Best loved Pub award in 2005 was one of the highlights in Chris's career and the turning point in his Marketing and social media interest.&nbsp;</font><font size="2" color="#000066">Creating one of the first on-line marketing e-news subscriptions, Chris started to use Facebook and Myspace to attract a wider audience.&nbsp;<br>

            When the opportunity arose to buy the Selkirk Arms Hotel in Kirkudbright, Chris knew that the internet was going to play an pivotal role in Marketing the&nbsp;</font><font size="2" color="#000066">business.
